Chetnole Home Watch and Local Police Contacts

The Chetnole Home Watch scheme is endorsed by Dorset Police Authority and organised in line with their recommendations. It aims to provide a localised support network for the community when needed, as well as keeping the village a safe and pleasant place in which to live. Eleven watch areas cover the whole parish, each supported by a volunteer co-ordinator. Villagers can join the scheme by contacting the Parish co-ordinator, Steve Crumpler who will then connect you with the appropriate co-ordinator for your part of the village. Should you need help or wish to pass on any information or concerns contact your local co-ordinator. As a scheme participant, please be prepared to lend a hand if a neighbour needs assistance because of illness, immobility or lack of transport.

The scheme is not intended to police the village. If you are concerned by the activities of any person or persons call the police. In emergencies dial 999. For non-emergency calls telephone 101. Do then please pass on the information your area co-ordinator. We are fortunate in live in a low crime area; recorded crime was over 80 times lower than the national average in 2023.

The scheme operates in conjunction with the Flood Warden scheme, with four Flood Wardens registered according to Environment Agency guidelines. Whenever floodwater causes a potential hazard, volunteers endeavour to put out the temporary flood warning signs. Sandbags can be collected from the community store behind the cricket pavilion, accessible from the church path.

Relevant Dorset Alert police messages and EA flood warnings are emailed to residents who have signed up to the scheme by Home Watch co-ordinators and Flood Wardens when needed. Messages are also added to village Facebook and WhatsApp groups.
